IJM Prayer Requests

“But I will rescue you on that day, declares the LORD; you will not be given into the hands of those you fear.”— Jeremiah 39:17

Africa

  • We thank God for delivering a widow and her three children from the hands of a violent relative who had tried to force them from their home in Uganda. The man was convicted at last after going into hiding and refusing to show up for trial on multiple occasions. We pray that he would move toward true repentance while serving his sentence. IJM’s lawyer sat beside the widow when the conviction verdict was read, and shared that “She was happy. The perpetrator knows now that the law actually worked. It was a good moment.” Continue to pray for this widow as she continues to work hard to support her family.

Latin America

  • Pray for local authorities, and for IJM advocates in particular, in the Latin America region. Pray that God will grant them wisdom and continue moving their hearts towards seeking justice for the most vulnerable: children who are sexually assaulted or trafficked for sexual exploitation. Pray that local authorities’ hearts would be moved to devote their time, commitment, resources and efforts to protect and restore these children, their families and their communities.

South Asia

  • Praise God for 850+ survivors of bonded labor slavery who just graduated from our aftercare program! These families were rescued from brutal brick kilns two years ago, and recently we asked you to pray for them as they prepared to complete their IJM journey and live fully independently. Last weekend, our team put together a joy-filled celebration to review all that these survivors had learned and to equip them for the future. They even elected leaders amongst themselves to help ensure families stay safe and maintain their freedom. Continue to pray for their restoration, but join us in praise this week for all they’ve already accomplished!

Southeast Asia

  • Pray for IJM’s newest team in Bangkok. IJM Bangkok will support Thai authorities to combat labor trafficking in the seafood industry . Ask God to grant the IJM team wisdom and favor as we build relationships with partners. Pray that we would be able to protect people who are being forced to work on fishing vessels.

  • Please join us in praising God for the 2,700+ churches around the world that participated in Freedom Sunday last weekend! Thank God for this incredible movement of churches standing up to seek justice for the poor and the oppressed, and ask Him to give the pastors, volunteers and attendees a sense of joy and determination to continue the fight against slavery in the days to come.
  • Please continue to pray as we recruit for a Vice President of Global Partnerships. IJM is seeking a senior executive to operate at a level of a global statesmanship in representing IJM’s thought leadership at the highest levels of government, multi-lateral institutions, academia, development institutions and religious societies. This role will also serve as the operational lead of global team in marshalling IJM’s intellectual assets and influence to fundamentally transform the way the world’s most influential institutions prioritize and fund programs to stop violence against the poor in the developing world.

IJM Prayer Requests

Africa

  • Praise God for an acquittal in the case of a man falsely accused of stealing a vehicle in Kenya. He has waited three years under the shadow of these false charges, and a few weeks ago you prayed for him when his judgment hearing was postponed yet again. We are so grateful that he is finally free and can look to the future with hope. Pray for him as he begins to look for work and rebuild his life.

Latin America

  • Justice prevailed in the Dominican Republic this week as a man was found guilty and sentenced to prison for selling his step-daughter to other men who paid to sexually exploit her; last year, her mother was also pronounced guilty and sentenced. Pray for Liana’s* healing as both of her perpetrators are now in prison. Pray that she continues to look forward to the bright future she can now purse in freedom with the support of her grandparents, close friends and IJM staff.

South Asia

  • Praise God for Megala*, a survivor of sex trafficking who recently completed her Bachelors of Arts degree. She was rescued from a brothel at just 10 years old, but through the support of our aftercare team has rebuilt her confidence and pursued her dreams. Megala is our first survivor to finish a university course like this, and she’s now hoping to complete a Master’s in Social Work and join IJM staff. Praise God for her determination, and pray she’ll continue to thrive in freedom.

Southeast Asia

  • Praise God for justice in the Philippines: Three people who turned their home into a cybersex trafficking den were convicted last week.IJM has been working on this case since 2015, when we helped police rescue 12 children, 6 to 17 years old. Two other suspects were arrested during the same operation; they have rejected a plea bargain and will stand trial. Please keep praying for the IJM lawyer and prosecutor who will handle this case.

  • Praise God for two boys rescued from child slavery on Lake Volta in Ghana. The Anti-Human Trafficking Unit of the Ghana police arrested one suspected trafficker in August, and requested IJM support with the follow-up rescue. In addition to the rescue of the two boys, the boat master who had forced the boys to work for him was arrested. Pray for the boys as they go to an aftercare shelter, that they would quickly feel safe and secure, and that their healing would be complete. Pray as well for the ongoing case against the traffickers, that justice would be done.

Now, they are ready to live freely without IJM’s help. Pray for our team planning the joyful graduation ceremony, and that it will be honoring and encouraging to these children, women and men as they embrace life in freedom.

  • Two American men — one from California, the other from Virginia — were found guilty this week for sexually exploiting young Filipino children. Both men had used the internet to meet facilitators in the Philippines, and had traveled there to abuse girls as young as eight years old in person. Praise God for the two brave survivors who traveled to California to testify in one of the cases. The girls were in the courtroom and heard the judge pronounce the man guilty. Just 24 hours later, a second case involving different children ended with the man in Virginia pleading guilty. Praise God that both cases have ended with justice, and pray that the survivors will move forward in peace and thrive in freedom.

Also pray for our aftercare team, who invested years in these families and grieve these losses just as deeply.
