Rebound Prayer Requests

Please pray for our homeless families, they need help from the community and from Rebound.

Pray for the families that are ill with the flu that is going around. As we prepare for our busy Spring and Summer season, please pray that volunteers and interns would see the ministry opportunities at Rebound.  We are in need of volunteers and interns for office clerical work, youth mentoring and planning activities, Community Resource Development and Fundraising & Marketing.  This could be a wonderful opportunity for college students as well as older adults who are looking for rewarding volunteer work with a ministry that is making a huge difference in the lives of vulnerable families in Whatcom County.

Please pray for a Rebound dad whose child was returned to him this summer, but who is struggling with meeting his obligations and is in danger of having the child removed again, this time for good.  We believe in this dad, but he needs to show that he can parent in a well-rounded manner.

Pray for a couple in our Parenting class to remain calm, and focused on the best interest of their child, as they work towards having the child returned to them. Protect them from the negative talk surrounding their situation. Also pray for them to find housing ASAP.

Please pray for favorable outcomes from the many grants we are writing in this grant-writing season.  Rebound relies greatly on Foundation funding to continue our programs' important work in our community.

Pray that our Ray of Hope Summer Day program will find a suitable location for 2018.  We need to find an alternative location to stage Ray of Hope for 80 children and 30 staff and need prayers that the right place with the right accommodations become available at the right time.

Pray also for our application process - that parents will see the positive results Ray of Hope has had in many children's lives and apply to send their children to our camp this year as we plan to increase the number of children we are accepting.

IJM Prayer Requests

“Are any among you suffering? They should pray. Are any cheerful? They should sing songs of praise. Are any among you sick? They should call for the elders of the church and have them pray over them, anointing them with oil in the name of the Lord. The prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise them up; and anyone who has committed sins will be forgiven.”

— James 5:13-15

Africa

  • Thank you for all your prayers for the IJM Kenya team over the past year and a half since the murders of our staff and client during a police abuse of power case. In the wake of the murders, IJM launched an online petition seeking justice and demanding the immediate removal of the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) in charge of the police force accused of the extrajudicial killings. On January 5, 2018, President Uhuru Kenyatta replaced the DIG as requested. Praise God for this movement toward justice for victims of police abuse in Kenya, and pray that leaders would continue to hear the cries of the oppressed and require accountability from the police force that should be protecting them.

Latin America

  • Pray for a 14-year-old survivor of sexual violence in Guatemala. After her stepfather raped her, local authorities relocated her to live with a member of her extended family. Sadly, in this new place, she started dating a gang member and was at risk of becoming part of the gang. For her safety, local authorities sent her to a government shelter. After a time there, she ran away. Please pray for God’s protection over her life, and pray for her to return to a place of safety and restoration.

South Asia

  • Please pray for breakthrough with the chief minister of one of the states where we work. Similar to a governor, this official has a lot of power — each state can be like a small country — and he has significant influence on the resources and policies that affect our work. IJM has made great progress with lower-level officials on modern-day slavery, and now our teams need support from this higher-level state leader to make the fight impactful and sustainable. Pray we can secure a meeting with him and begin building a fruitful relationship to end slavery and trafficking for good!

Southeast Asia

  • This week, a Philippines court announced the conviction of a man who trafficked girls and young women for sex. Join us in praising God for justice in this case, and pray for the survivors’ continued journeys toward healing and wholeness as they overcome the trauma of this abuse.

  • Please pray for wisdom and creativity for our volunteer teams in cities across the U.S. Pray for these volunteers as they plan for the year, outlining goals and strategies to rally financial resources, advocacy momentum and prayer support for the work of justice. Ask God to give them great joy as they build the movement to end slavery and stand up for the oppressed.

IJM Prayer Request

“I know that the Lord secures justice for the poor and upholds the cause of the needy. ”

— Psalm 140:12

Africa

  • Pray for Catherine, a widow in Uganda, whose land was stolen from her by a gang of violent men. After years of threats, the gang attacked Catherine’s family in 2012, further threatening them and stealing from them. The next day the police arrested 12 of the suspects, and a criminal case was filed. IJM learned about her story and launched a civil case to win her the right to her land. Six years later, both cases are still ongoing. Next week there will be a hearing in the civil case. Pray for a quick resolution that will clearly give Catherine the right to the land she inherited from her husband.

Latin America

  • Praise the Lord for open doors in the Dominican Republic, where IJM has the opportunity to escalate our work of rescuing, protecting and restoring survivors of sex trafficking to a national level. Late last year, the Interinstitutional Commission against Human Trafficking invited our team to participate in creating a National Plan against Human Trafficking! Pray that IJM’s recommendations would be taken into account as they develop this plan. Pray for this Commission’s work to create an effective and successful plan to protect Dominican children from the brutal violence of sex trafficking.

South Asia

  • Please pray for health and happiness as one teen survivor of sex trafficking competes in a field hockey tournament this week. Since her rescue from a brothel several years ago, she has started playing on the field hockey team, working and training her hardest to help the team succeed. Pray this tournament would be a joyful experience where she gains confidence and friendships and that it ultimately contributes to her overall recovery. (And pray she wins!)

Southeast Asia

  • Pray for the IJM teams seeking to rescue victims trafficked into Thailand’s fishing industry. Pray also for favor and wisdom as the team builds relationships with police and prosecutors in both Thailand and Cambodia (where many of the traffickers target victims). Pray that we would see an end to modern slavery in this industry.

  • Please pray as we plan and prepare for Liberate, a global gathering to end slavery. The September event in Dallas, TX, will include all of IJM’s global staff and our family of supporters — our largest gathering ever. Pray that God would begin drawing together attendees who are deeply invested in the fight against slavery and are ready to further the movement to end it.

Rebound Prayer Requests

Pray for a father and son who recently lost the boy's mother to an apparent drug overdose. For peace and comfort, and positivity moving forward.

For the families we serve who are homeless; one of them is currently living in a garage. Several in the community have helped her with some furniture and now she is need of a dependable vehicle as the one she is driving is not going to last very long.  Also pray for two young siblings who are living in a car - that housing will become available to them soon.

For a mother who has experienced domestic violence, and is still fearful of her ex-husband.  Pray for safety for her and her children, and for supportive people to be put in her life to help her through legal issues she is facing.

Pray for the Rebound staff and families who are battling the sickness that is going around.

  • Pray for the IJM Gulu team in Uganda as they launch a new pilot project to assist women who have experienced extreme forms of domestic violence. Pray for the women we will be working with during the course of the year ahead, pray for the communities that surround and support these women and pray for the public justice officials who will be responding to these cases.

Latin America

  • Please pray for an 11-year-old Bolivian survivor of sexual violence who will be sharing her testimony in court. Early this week, a hearing was scheduled to evaluate her testimony but they ran out of time before she was able to share. A new hearing has been scheduled; pray that the hearing will actually happen and that the judge will take her testimony as valid evidence in the prosecution of her case. Please pray also for God’s overflowing peace in her life and for continued healing as she shares her story once again.

South Asia

  • Ask for God’s wisdom as our team works on a complicated case of two girls who are possibly being held in bonded labor slavery at a spinning mill. These two teen girls had been working to help support their impoverished family, but have been trapped in filthy conditions and have not been allowed to leave. Our studies show high levels of trafficking in the textile and garment industries, and we need God’s help to discover the truth, protect these girls and bring attention to this abusive industry.

Southeast Asia

  • Praise God for the first conviction this year: Two traffickers were convicted for exploiting three young teens, 14 to 16 years old. The convictions this week ended a two-and-a-half year trial. Praise God for the Senior Assistant State Prosecutor in the Philippines who led that trial, with support from IJM’s team in Manila. Pray that these three young women, now living back in their community, will find strength and peace knowing justice has been done.

  • Please ask God to bring the right people to join IJM’s team, both for positions at our headquarters and in our field offices around the world. Pray for wisdom as our Recruiting Team reviews applications and interviews candidates, seeking to bring the women and men on board who will help make justice for the poor unstoppable.

Rebound Prayer Requests

Please pray for the homeless who are in need of shelter in this cold weather.

Pray for a father and son who recently lost the boy's mother to an apparent drug overdose. For peace and comfort, and positivity moving forward.

Pray for the families we serve who are homeless; one of them is currently living in a garage. Several in the community have helped her with some furniture and now she is need of a dependable vehicle as the one she is driving is not going to last very long.  Also pray for two young siblings who are living in a car - that housing will become available to them soon.

Pray for the beginning of Rebound's Roots programs that are starting this week. We look forward to welcoming new families and seeing the regular ones who have been coming.

Pray that 50 people in the community will believe in what God is doing to change lives through the programs serving vulnerable families at Rebound, and sign up to financially support our ministry by becoming monthly supporters.  If 50 people will pledge to contribute $50 a month, it will enable Rebound to reach more people with our transformational family enrichment programs.

IJM Prayer Requests

“This is what the Lord says: ‘Maintain justice and do what is right, for my salvation is close at hand and my righteousness will soon be revealed.’ ”

— Isaiah 56:1

Africa

  • Pray for prosecutors in Ghana as they prepare for the trial of suspected traffickers arrested during a January 2017 rescue operation. Pray for diligence and a passion for justice. Pray also that these trials would send the message that trafficking is a serious crime that the Ghanaian government will not tolerate, and that as a result thousands of children will be protected from ever being trafficked into slavery in Lake Volta’s fishing industry.

Latin America

  • Praise God for a successful and restoring 2017! Our Latin America teams faithfully walked alongside 70 boys and girls who are survivors of sexual violence and sex trafficking through the ups and downs of trauma-focused therapy. In this process, our social workers and psychologist consistently work with each survivor and his or her family to address the trauma they have experienced and help create a safe and stable environment that will support their healing process. In this New Year, we invite you to continue praying for Latin America and for these boys and girls, their families and their communities. Pray that these young survivors would continue living in freedom and restoration.

South Asia

  • Please pray for stability in one of the cities where we work after large-scale protests have erupted across the state. Members of a low-caste community are protesting a potential murder case, and some people have used this time to provoke violence — which has prevented our staff from traveling safely around the city. Pray for God’s peace to cover the streets, for an end to violence and for a quick resolution to the issues being discussed.

Southeast Asia

  • Pray for boys and girls who are suffering in secret right now in the Philippines. Many victims of cybersex trafficking are being exploited by relatives or neighbors, and building cases takes time and patience. Pray that IJM’s teams in Cebu and Manila would have discernment and favor as they develop cases and work with local law enforcement to locate these children.

  • Please pray for the IJM campus chapter student leaders as they begin a new semester this month. Pray that God would grant these students wisdom, energy and creativity as they seek to raise awareness of trafficking, and as they mobilize their peers to take action against slavery in concrete and tangible ways.
