IJM Prayer Requests

“Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever; a scepter of justice will be the scepter of your kingdom.”

— Psalm 45:6

Africa

  • Pray for the 250 churches in Ghana that participated in Freedom Sunday in September. As 2018 begins, pray that these congregations of believers would feel the call of God to join him in defending the poor and seeking justice for children who have been enslaved. Pray especially for those pastors who are leading churches in the Volta region, where some know members of their community or congregation are traffickers. Pray for boldness and wisdom in confronting the injustice that they see, so that the church becomes a place of refuge and protection for children.

Latin America

  • Praise God for the different opportunities our team in the Dominican Republic had throughout 2017 to build local capacity.More than 1,000 police, government officials, social workers, church leaders and other community members were trained to recognize and effectively respond to sex crimes against children. Pray for them to move forward in their fight for justice as they take the next step and put their training in practice.

South Asia

  • IJM opened our newest office in Bangkok this year. Praise God for the new team members who have joined in the fight against labor trafficking in the Thai fishing industry. Pray that we would be able to fill all of the remaining open positions early in the new year. Pray especially for aftercare staff who can cast vision and help develop a strong support system for men and women rescued from slavery at sea.

Southeast Asia

  • More than 80 girls and boys have been rescued from cybersex trafficking this year in the Philippines. Please pray for them. Ask Jesus to come, as Emmanuel, to bring his hope and healing in their lives. Many of these children are living in shelters and have spent Christmas away from family. Pray that they would know they are part of God’s family and experience the deep love of our Father. (Learn more about IJM’s work in the Philippines, where we are protecting boys and girls from online sexual exploitation.)

IJM has partner offices in Australia, Canada, Germany, the Netherlands and the U.K.

  • Please pray for the nearly 100 new staff members, interns and fellows who will be joining us for orientation in early January. Thank God for bringing these talented men and women to join our team, and pray for strength and joy as they prepare to attend orientation. In particular, please pray for the team members who will be moving internationally for their positions. Pray for smooth logistics and physical and emotional stamina as they arrive in the field.

IJM Prayer Requests

December 23, 2017

“ ‘Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and will rescue you,’ declares the Lord.”

— Jeremiah 1:8

Africa

  • Praise God, this month we celebrated the 5-year anniversary of the opening of our IJM Gulu office in Uganda to combat land theft. Since opening, the Gulu team and local partners have brought relief to more than 550 widows, orphans and their family members who had suffered from having their land stolen from them. This month, the Gulu team held events and meetings with communities to spread further awareness, and several widows shared their experiences of land theft. Pray that these events would spur on communities to take responsibility for protecting the most vulnerable in their midst, and that Gulu would become a place where women feel safe and supported to thrive as they care for themselves and their families.

Latin America

  • Praise God for all the children we have been able to rescue in 2017 with our local partners across the Latin America region. Lift up these young survivors of sexual violence and sex trafficking, and their families, as they continue working towards restoration with our social workers and psychologist. Pray for protection, for healing and for them to experience God’s transforming and unconditional love through each interaction they have with our staff members. Lastly, pray for them to be able to find healthy community support that can help them thrive.

South Asia

  • Pray for renewed strategy and wisdom for our investigations teams preparing cases for early 2018. Ask for God’s protection over them as they go into new and dangerous places to find families being exploited for labor in brick kilns, rock quarries and other industries. Pray that they can gain enough solid evidence to move local officials to action and rescue these families quickly in the new year.

Southeast Asia

  • Praise God for the thousands of people who have finally become Thai citizens this year. Hundreds of men, women and children belonging to hill tribes (ethnic minority groups) became Thai citizens thanks to the proactive leadership of a single governor. Praise God for him, and pray that he would be able to influence other leaders who also have the mandate and ability to process citizenship applications. (Learn more about IJM’s work in Northern Thailand , where we are helping hill tribe people advocate for their rightful citizenship and the freedoms it brings.)

  • Praise God for the over 4,000 vulnerable children, women and men who are celebrating Christmas in freedom this year. Thank God for the opportunity to partner with government officials to bring these survivors of slavery and other violent oppression to safety. And please pray for these survivors as they receive aftercare from IJM teams and our partners, asking God to draw near to them on their journey towards health and wholeness.

IJM Prayer Requests

“For the Lord your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great God, mighty and awesome, who shows no partiality and accepts no bribes. He defends the cause of the fatherless and the widow, and loves the foreigner residing among you, giving them food and clothing.”

— Deuteronomy 10:17-18

Africa

  • Praise God that a judge has recognized the strength of a case against a powerful police officer accused of beating a man to death in prison in 2013. The Independent Police Oversight Authority, an IJM partner, then investigated the murder and oversaw the charging of the suspected police officer with the crime. We can thank God that this month the judge determined that the prosecution team had presented enough evidence for the trial to proceed. Pray that true justice would be done in this case.

Latin America

  • Earlier this month, we asked you to join our Guatemala team in prayer for the creation of a Sex Offender Registry and a Genetic Databank. Praise God for his faithfulness; Congress approved the bill our team was helping promote! The passage of this bill is a major step forward to secure protection for Guatemalan children and it opens a space for technology to be used to prevent sexual violence from happening in the first place. The bill is still pending a signature by the president, so we invite you to continue praying with us. Pray for the Guatemalan president to sign the bill and to make sure that the necessary resources for its implementation are fully allocated.

South Asia

  • Please pray for our recruitment efforts for key roles across South Asia. We are growing many of our teams — from casework to partnerships to government relationships — to build on crucial momentum in the anti-slavery movement. Adding staff early in 2018 will help us rescue thousands and combat trafficking in all its forms. Pray we can find strong, loving and motivated candidates to join our team!

Southeast Asia

  • IJM's teams in the Philippines are hosting a series of Christmas parties for our clients and the staff at aftercare shelters where many of the young women and children live. Praise God for the local churches that are providing space, food, activities and support. Pray that the clients would be blessed by these celebratory events and reminded of God's love for them. Pray also for the church partners to be blessed and inspired to work with us in new and deeper ways next year.

IJM HQ & Global Partners

IJM has partner offices in Australia, Canada, Germany, the Netherlands and the U.K.

  • Please pray for strength and creativity for IJM’s team around the world — for our team at HQ, our partner offices, our field offices and for our volunteers — as we run hard to finish 2017 with strong momentum. Pray that God would grant health and endurance, and for good rest over Christmas as we celebrate the good news of the incarnation and prepare for the year ahead.

Rebound Prayer Request

Please pray for the homeless who are in need of shelter in this cold weather.

For a single mom with 2 kids - she has a housing voucher but needs to come up with the remainder of the deposit required to move in.

Please pray for a young woman who suffers from ongoing alcohol addiction which causes her to lose employment, and housing.  For healing from this addiction, and for a new chance at living a normal life.

For the families that are struggling to provide Christmas for their family.

Please pray for a young man (20) who is caring for his sister (17 with severe epilepsy). They are living in a car that no longer has a working battery. They have applied for housing through the Opportunity Council and Northwest Youth Services, but getting housing takes time. We have a donor that will provide Christmas Dinner and a few presents they need. What they need most is somewhere to sleep that is warm, a place they can feel safe.  Having one of our Roots parents recently pass away due to exposure, this weighs heavily on our hearts that these two young people are unable to get assistance. Please pray for safe warm place to stay and that they feel peace soon.

Rebound wants to thank the generous help provided for the Mom with twins. They are doing much better, both Mom and the babies,

Praise the Lord for the successful Community Toy Store again this year,

Please continue to pray for the financial viability of our organization with the year end giving season coming upon us.  Although there are many worthy nonprofits to support, especially in Whatcom County, Rebound is one that we'd ask people to prayerfully consider when deciding which ministry to support.  We are always thankful for every donation, large or small and give thanks to God for every person who chooses to support our work to connect, empower and restore vulnerable children and families.

Thanks for all the generous donors and supporters of Rebound this year. A lot of changes with staff and programs yet they have remained faithful with their contributions!

IJM Prayer Requests

“Sing to God, sing in praise of his name, extol him who rides on the clouds; rejoice before him — his name is the LORD. A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling. God sets the lonely in families, he leads out the prisoners with singing; but the rebellious live in a sun-scorched land.”

— Psalm 68:4-6

Africa

  • Pray for children rescued out of slavery on Lake Volta in Ghana as we enter the Christmas season. After rescue, we locate the families of each child and assess whether they will be able to return home safely to their communities. The goal is to reunite children with their families and help parents to provide care and send their children to school. That process takes time, and in the interim, children receive protection and care from our aftercare partners in Ghana. Please pray for healing and peace for the children who are not yet reunited with their families. Pray that they would be comforted by the dedicated aftercare partners who care for them, and that they would sense the love and presence of their heavenly father.

Latin America

  • Praise God for our Bolivia team and for the work they do for child survivors of sexual violence. Last Sunday, and after years of roadblocks and challenges, our team was able to collaborate with local law enforcement authorities to locate and arrest a man who had raped a three-year-old girl. This young survivor is now nine years old, and our IJM social workers have been walking with her to help her heal from trauma and thrive. Please pray for this young survivor as she can now continue with her life knowing that this man can’t hurt her anymore. In addition, pray for the legal part of this case, as our team continues to bring this man in front of local authorities to ensure he is not able to hurt others going forward.

South Asia

  • Praise God for a woman and her two young children rescued from bondage at a brick kiln, and please pray for their ongoing care. This family had been trapped in slavery to repay a significant loan. The woman’s husband escaped several weeks ago, and she was struggling to get by. She begged to leave the kiln and find money to repay the debt — but then the kiln owner kept her toddlers as ransom and threatened to hurt them. Thankfully, IJM staff were in the area and heard her cries for help, and we worked with officials to free her family. Please pray for their ongoing crisis care, and for follow-up in this case to ensure the slave owners are punished.

Southeast Asia

  • Please pray for an eight-year-old girl rescued from cybersex trafficking last month in Pampanga, the Philippines. Her aunt and aunt’s live-in partner were both arrested. Three other young children were removed from the home as at-risk and potential victims. IJM followed a tip from the Nordic Police and supported three different Philippine police groups in this operation; praise God for the incredible collaboration between so many agencies. Praise God too that these children are now safe, and please pray for them. Pray that the truth would be clear, that the woman and her partner would repent and be healed, and that the children would grow up strong and assured that they are beloved.

For a single dad who finally is getting his child the counseling he needs.

Pray for a young woman who suffers from ongoing alcohol addiction which causes her to lose employment, and housing.  For healing from this addiction, and for a new chance at living a normal life.

Thanks to all who attended Comfort & Joy, our annual Winter Event!  It was a fun evening with good food, good friends, and a great tribute to one of our sweetest families whose story is a true example of transformation and redemption!

Thanks for all the generous donors and supporters of Rebound this year. A lot of changes with staff and programs yet they have remained faithful with their contributions!

IJM Prayer Requests

“The Lord works righteousness and justice for all the oppressed."

— Psalm 103:6

Africa

  • Pray for widows in Gulu, Uganda who participated in a trauma training this week. Pray that as the women return home they would be able to put the skills they’ve learned into practice in their day-to-day lives as they continue healing. Pray also that they would be encouraged by being connected to other women who have experienced similar trauma, that they would feel like they are not isolated and have a community alongside them.

Latin America

  • Over the weekend, our team marched alongside survivors of child sexual assault and their families to advocate for the creation of a Sex Offender Registry and DNA bank in Guatemala. If this new legislation is approved, it would be a huge step forward to protect children from sexual violence in the country, as this registry could provide key information in the investigation stage of cases, as well as progress toward prevention. Please pray that this initiative will receive the final approval vote by Congress, that it will be signed into law by the Guatemalan president, and that the necessary resources will be allocated for its implementation to bring justice for victims of sexual violence.

South Asia

  • Praise God for ten people rescued from slavery at a chicken farm on Thanksgiving day. These adults and children had been forced to work long hours in hot, dirty conditions. Our team supported officials for several days to bring them to safety and apprehend their abuser. After getting warm meals and medical care, the families are living safely in an aftercare facility where they can heal. Pray for them as they adjust to dignified lives in freedom!

Southeast Asia

  • Praise God for three girls rescued from cybersex trafficking on Thanksgiving day. IJM supported Philippine police with the rescue operation, thanks to a referral from New Zealand police. Praise God that the three children, who are 3, 5 and 7 years old, are now safe. Ask the Holy Spirit to provide comfort, peace and trust as they recover. Pray also for the two suspects arrested — sadly, they are the parents of the victims in this case.

  • Please pray for the advocates who will be wearing a dress each day this month, partnering with our friends at Dressember to generate awareness and support for ending slavery. Ask God to give these advocates creativity, enthusiasm and joy as they participate in the campaign and rally others to the fight against trafficking.
