IJM Prayer Requests

“Now let the fear of the Lord be on you. Judge carefully, for with the Lord our God there is no injustice or partiality or bribery.”

— 2 Chronicles 19:7

Africa

  • Pray for the survivor in one of our domestic violence cases in Gulu, Uganda, who bravely testified in court this week. Praise God that the case has proceeded and there have been no issues with security, and continue praying for the survivor and her family, for their healing and protection.

Latin America

  • Praise God that justice has been served for three Guatemalan girl survivors of sexual violence — they were 3, 11 and 13 years old when the abuse first started. On October 24, the perpetrator (a family member) was sentenced to 64 years and four months in jail for rape, sexual assault and production of child pornography. For over three years, IJM supported local authorities to find justice for these survivors. Join our Guatemala team in prayer for these survivors and their families as the Lord continues to bring them healing.

South Asia

  • Praise God for a successful rescue operation last weekend that freed six girls and young women from a brutal brothel. Many of these girls had been trapped for years and forced to serve dozens of customers every night. It took several attempts to mobilize the operation, so we are so grateful for its ultimate success. Please pray for several follow-up arrests in this case and for the survivors’ initial healing. Read more about this rescue.

Southeast Asia

  • Praise God for the opening of a new aftercare shelter in the Philippines to serve young boys and girls who are survivors of cybersex trafficking. We are grateful for this partnership and excited to see the healing and restoration that will be made possible through this shelter. Join us in praying for the shelter staff as they prepare to accept children into the facility and provide care for survivors of abuse and exploitation.

  • Please join us in praising God for the launch of Season 5 of The New Activist Podcast this week in partnership with the RELEVANT Podcast Network. The show features conversations with leaders tackling some of the world’s biggest humanitarian issues, and people taking extraordinary steps to seek justice in their day-to-day lives. Pray that the podcast would rally people across the globe to step into the fight against slavery and injustice in tangible ways.

IJM Prayer Requests

“Yet the Lord longs to be gracious to you; therefore he will rise up to show you compassion. For the Lord is a God of justice. Blessed are all who wait for him! People of Zion, who live in Jerusalem, you will weep no more. How gracious he will be when you cry for help! As soon as he hears, he will answer you.”

— Isaiah 30:18-19

Africa

  • Thank you for your prayers for the trial in Kenya for the murders of Willie, Joseph and Josephat. It was supposed to run for two consecutive weeks, but due to the judge being called away to hear an out of town case, only ran the week of October 9. The trial will proceed on November 12. As we wait for the trial to resume, please pray for the safety of the eight witnesses remaining to testify, and that all evidence would be admitted and heard in court.

Latin America

  • Praise God for the Ministry of Education in Guatemala, for their proactive attitude and commitment to ending sexual violence against children in their country. IJM is partnering with this Ministry to empower students and teachers by creating and disseminating educational tools for children in the form of comics and developing a guide for teachers that provides guidance on how to report this crime. Pray that these actions will reach many and be fruitful in proving that justice for the poor is unstoppable.

South Asia

  • Please pray for our efforts to train officials in one flood-ravaged state on how to protect vulnerable families from human trafficking.Heavy rains and floods left more than one million people displaced or homeless — which leaves them highly at-risk from the lures and lies of traffickers. We are working with the state government to try to stop trafficking before it starts. Pray we could educate these officials well and work with local leaders on solutions to keep their communities safe. Learn more.

Southeast Asia

  • Please pray for IJM’s newest office in Bangkok as they continue to recruit passionate and dedicated Thai professionals. As we work to support the Thai government and partners fighting trafficking in Thailand’s vast fishing industry, we are praying for God to bring candidates to fill the remaining five key positions to lead these efforts and serve trafficking victims. In particular, pray for God to bring legal and social work professionals to our team.

  • Please pray for the IJM campus chapters that are preparing to hostFreedom Fasts in November. Ask God to pour out creativity and energy on these student leaders as they plan the events and recruit others to join them, and that Freedom Fasts would be powerful platforms to rally awareness, prayer and financial resources to end slavery.

IJM Prayer Requests

“The Almighty is beyond our reach and exalted in power; in his justice and great righteousness, he does not oppress.”

— Job 37:23

Africa

  • Praise God for the conviction in Kenya of two men who raped a 13-year-old girl with an intellectual disability in 2016. Pray for the girl as she continues to heal from this trauma, and for her family as they seek to support her and care for her well.

Latin America

  • Please pray for strength for Isabel*, a survivor of sex trafficking in the Dominican Republic. A judge dismissed her case earlier this year, which was devastating news for her and her family. Our team is relentless and is appealing the case. Isabel is feeling a lot of anxiety and doesn't feel like returning to court to testify is worth the effort. Pray that Isabel would feel God's presence in the midst of fear and anxiety, and overcome this difficult roadblock. Her testimony is essential in court to restrain her aggressors.

South Asia

  • Praise God for the successful conviction of a slave owner who brutally exploited 31 people in a massive rock quarry. Many of these families were enslaved for up to eight years, until IJM and local police rescued them in 2012. This week, the owner and two of his accomplices were each sentenced to nearly 12 years in prison. Local prosecutors handled this case with very little support from IJM — a great sign of justice beginning to flow. Praise God for his power in this case, and pray the news will be a welcome encouragement to the survivors now living in freedom.

Southeast Asia

  • Praise God for long-awaited justice in the Philippines: Last week, a Cebu court handed down a conviction of two traffickers. The couple had sexually exploited their own children and others for foreign pedophiles and predators watching online. This is Cebu's first prosecution for cybersex trafficking, and it gives justice to the six victims who were abused. As the survivors hear and process this news, pray for their continued healing and thriving. Also pray that God would lead the couple, who have been sentenced to life in prison, to repentance, and that they would know God’s great healing and mercy.

  • Please join us in prayer for The Freedom Project Tour this month.Pray that the events — in partnership between author Jennie Allen, musician Christy Nockels and IJM — would equip and inspire attendees to experience freedom in their own lives and set others free in turn.

IJM Prayer Requests

“And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, ‘Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.’ ”

— Revelation 21:3-4

Africa

  • Continue to pray for God to raise up partners in Ghana to provide services to survivors after rescue. As we are rescuing more children out of slavery in the fishing industry, we need to ensure that there are safe shelter homes where they can receive medical care, counseling and education as their long-term needs are assessed. Pray for our team as they are meeting with potential partners, for wisdom and insight to identify the right places for rescued children to receive care.

Latin America

  • Praise God for last month’s success: Our Bolivia team supported local authorities in securing the maximum sentence of 30 yearsagainst a man who sexually assaulted his five-year-old granddaughter. When the trial ended the survivor’s mother was overwhelmed with joy and extremely grateful to our team for supporting them in this process. Please continue praying for this young survivor and her mother as they can now rest knowing this man can’t hurt them again. Pray especially for courage and wisdom as the abuse has taken a toll on their family relationships.

South Asia

  • Ask God for protection and favor as our team seeks to find and rescue families trapped in forced labor slavery in the last few months of the year. We have seen great progress this year and hundreds of families brought to safety, but we know many more are still waiting for rescue. With many cases in the pipeline, pray we could move local law enforcement to action on behalf of the poor and shut down the abusive businesses that prey on women, children and men in need. Pray we could make a lot of progress before the end of 2018, so no one can deny the prevalence of modern-day slavery in the communities where we work.

Southeast Asia

  • Pray for IJM’s teams in Bangkok and our Thai partners as we seek to rescue and restore victims of labor trafficking. Vulnerable migrant workers across the region are exploited in Thailand’s extensive fishing industry, and criminal networks in Thailand and neighboring countries are making a profit off of enslaving people. Pray that the Thai government’s efforts to curb this epidemic would be successful, and pray for IJM’s teams in Thailand and Cambodia to bring rescue and restoration to the thousands of victims we have yet to meet.
