Sex Trafficking & Porn

Action step against trafficking:  Learn about the connection between porn and trafficking.  Info and resources below.

Porn Fuels Sex Trafficking

According to FightTheNewDrug.org,  porn fuels sex trafficking.  Their website explains, "...while many people claim to be opposed to human sex trafficking, what many don’t know is that the demand for human sex trafficking is fueled by pornography and the porn industry."

The FightTheNewDrug website explains, "There are all kinds of connections, big and small, between pornography and sex trafficking."  These connections are categorized as 'incidental' connections, 'supply and demand' connections, 'the training manual' connection, and 'risk factor' connections.  You can read more about each of these connections HERE.

FightTheNewDrug.org goes on to say, "But what’s the biggest, most surprising connection between pornography and trafficking? It’s this: they’re often the same thing" ... as "nearly half of sex trafficking victims report that pornography was made of them while they were in bondage."

A porn viewer has no idea when a "porn star" is being trafficked and when they're not.  FightTheNewDrug.org says, "One female survivor, whose captor slept on top of her at night so she wouldn’t escape, watched her through a hole when she went to the bathroom, and listened to her phone calls with a gun pointed at her head, was forced to appear in a video that made the Sinclair Intimacy Institute’s list of “sex positive productions”!  “Every time someone watches that film,” she said, “they are watching me being raped.”

In a focused effort to educate the public about the harmful effects of porn, including the links to trafficking, FightTheNewDrug.org has rolled out several resources for its NoPornovember campaign.  These include a documentary series, a conversation blueprint, and "a current, ever-growing database dedicated to the research on the harmful effects of pornography."  Consider checking out these resources and sharing them with others as an important action step against trafficking.
