“Sing to the Lord! Give praise to the Lord! He rescues the life of the needy from the hands of the wicked.”
— Jeremiah 20:13
Praise God for a collaborative workshop held with Police Scotland and the Uganda police in Gulu, Uganda. As IJM increases collaboration with police to investigate and bring cases against perpetrators of domestic violence, this workshop presents an opportunity to brainstorm and learn from other law enforcement experiences in dealing with the same crimes. Police Scotland have conducted trainings on women- and child-friendly police procedures in many countries around the world, and imparting these trainings to the Ugandan police will help make them better able to respond to domestic violence reports in the community. Pray for the Ugandan police to continue the pursuit of excellence in response to domestic violence crimes. Watch a Ugandan news outlet's video of the training on YouTube.
Please pray for our legal team in the Dominican Republic as they prepare for multiple hearings in the next couple of weeks. Pray for strength and mental clarity for our lawyers who, despite experiencing multiple setbacks throughout the proceedings of these cases, are still showing up to court; one of our consistent challenges has been the continual rescheduling of hearings due to absences. Pray that everyone who needs to be in the hearings would show up in coming weeks. Ask God to use all evidence collected by local authorities and the persistence of our staff to move the judge’s heart to bring justice for children and young women survivors of sex trafficking in these cases.
Please pray for strong convictions against alleged slave owners in our project areas. Our partners in the public justice system have been increasingly proactive in rescuing families from bonded labor slavery, but trials against traffickers and slave owners can still drag on for years in the overburdened courts. Please pray for several upcoming trials to move more quickly and reach strong sentences that will deter others from enslaving the poor. We really need breakthrough in these convictions to prove to the community that justice for the poor is possible.
Join us in praising God that 11 children in the Philippines are now safe! Through three operations, Philippine authorities arrested five suspects for offering to live-stream sexual exploitation of the children online for foreign predators. The rescued survivors — who range in age from 2 to 17 — are now in the care of social workers. Pray for these survivors, and for the aftercare professionals who are beginning to walk with them to help them recover from the trauma they’ve suffered.

Please pray for the IJM campus chapter student leaders who are calling their peers to join the fight against injustice. Pray that God would grant these students wisdom, energy and creativity, and that they would boldly mobilize their generation to end slavery in their lifetime.
