“They will know that I am the LORD, when I break the bars of their yoke and rescue them from those who enslaved them.”
— Ezekiel 34:27b
This past week, IJM held a conference for a large fishermen’s association in Ghana to explain the anti-trafficking law and call on them to surrender any child slaves they are currently using. Pray that the word will spread in the fishing community about the consequences of abusing children and using them for slave labor, and that many will be convicted to release the children that they have enslaved.
Praise God for committed local partners who are eager to learn and be better equipped to support women and children survivors of violence in El Salvador. Last week, our team and a local partner organization held strategic planning sessions. Please pray that God will give both teams guidance and clear communications as we grow together in this partnership. Ask God for his favor over this new relationship so the most vulnerable can have access to the care and protection they desperately need.
Praise God for five teen girls rescued from sex trafficking in two rescue operations this week. IJM teams in two cities worked with anti-trafficking police on Monday and Tuesday to infiltrate private sex trafficking networks that were selling girls in private apartments. In one instance, the suspected trafficker was one girl’s own mother. Please pray for these girls as they settle into aftercare homes and begin to heal from the trauma they have endured. Ask for God’s wisdom as IJM and police finish documenting evidence in these cases and move them toward prosecution, so that justice can be served.
Pray for an ongoing trial against a Cambodian man who has allegedly trafficked vulnerable Cambodian migrant workers into forced labor in the Gulf of Thailand. He is believed to be a key player in a network of recruiters, brokers and traffickers stretching from impoverished villages across Cambodia all the way to fishing ports along Thailand’s coast. Thai authorities arrested him in 2018, and he now faces charges for his crimes. Pray that the trial would progress quickly and close successfully, bringing justice to his victims and sending a message of deterrence to other trafficking criminals.

Praise God for survivors who are leading the justice movement in their communities and around the world. These survivors are sharing their stories, calling on governments and individuals to protect people from violence. Please ask God to pour out resilience and joy on these survivor leaders, as talking about their experiences can be challenging. And ask God to grant IJM wisdom as we support these survivors in the process of sharing their stories.
