IJM Prayer Request

"May he defend the afflicted among the people and save the children of the needy; may he crush the oppressor."

- Psalm 72:4

Africa

Pray for ongoing trafficking cases in Ghana, especially for three cases nearing completion. Please pray for progress, for no delays, and for justice to be done. Pray also for continued healing for all the survivors in these cases, and for encouragement for our legal staff.

Latin America

Praise God for his faithfulness and for an open door to continue our work protecting children from sexual violence in Bolivia. For more than a year we have sought your prayers over getting an important government agreement renewed for our office, and yesterday your prayers were answered! This official agreement will allow IJM to continue partnering with local volunteers, grassroots organizations and key public justice system officials to protect and restore more Bolivian children and their families.

South Asia

Please pray for a young woman recently rescued from sex trafficking as she begins to heal. She had been sold for sex for several months by a secretive network and was rescued just days after her eighteenth birthday. Police arrested two suspects in this case and are currently finalizing their case documentation. This documentation could have a major impact on the upcoming trial, so please pray specifically that the charges they file would reflect that this victim was a minor when she was first abused, even though she was rescued as an adult.

Southeast Asia

This week, IJM and our partners in Northern Thailand gathered in Chiang Mai to celebrate what we have accomplished together. The group of government officials, NGO partners and IJM staff celebrated the 101 lives that have been forever changed through our collective efforts to defend and protect children from sexual violence. Join us in praising God for the miracles he has performed in these survivors' lives and in vulnerable communities across Northern Thailand, and pray that God would continue his work of healing and restoration in each of their lives.

Please join us in praising God for the churches that have already signed up to host a Freedom Sunday service this year. Pray for wisdom and creativity as these churches prepare for Freedom Sunday, when they will dedicate a service to preaching about God's heart for justice and will call their congregants to join the fight.

IJM Prayer Request

"Look on my suffering and deliver me, for I have not forgotten your law. Defend my cause and redeem me; preserve my life according to your promise."

- Psalm 119:153-154

Africa

Praise God for providing new staff to join our investigation teams in Ghana. We have been very short-staffed and the search for the right people with the skills and passion for rescuing children out of slavery in the fishing industry on Lake Volta has been a long one. Pray for the strength and courage that each of these individuals will need as they work hard and partner with police to bring rescue for enslaved children.

Latin America

Praise God that an IJM partner in Guatemala took on a 15-year old girl's case which was originally reported to the Public Ministry by the Ministry of Education. Thank God for our partners' commitment and good governmental collaboration. Pray that the Ministry of Education continues to put the rights of child victims of sexual violence before any administrative procedure, and that justice would prevail in this case.

South Asia

Please continue to pray for the 42 children, women and men rescued last week from wood-cutting units. These families are safe, but they continue to live in intense fear of the former slave owners. We are advocating for government protection for these families, but we also need God's hand to cover them and help them find peace. Pray that we advocate effectively and ensure these terrified survivors can experience true and total safety. Read more about the case and see photos here.

Southeast Asia

We continue to relentlessly seek rescue on behalf of men trapped in forced labor slavery in Thailand's massive fishing industry. Please continue to persevere with us in prayer that victims of trafficking who are in urgent need of rescue are found, that their stories of abuse at sea and at seafood processing centers are heard by those in power, and that the Thai government is able to swiftly bring justice to those who are abusing them.

Please pray for our upcoming 2019 Advocacy Summit, where our advocates in the U.S. will ask their elected officials to support legislation that will protect women and children from violence in Central America. Ask God to draw people to the event from across the country and to use the event to build the justice movement.

IJM Prayer Request

"Never again will they hunger; never again will they thirst. The sun will not beat down on them,' nor any scorching heat. For the Lamb at the center of the throne will be their shepherd; 'he will lead them to springs of living water.' 'And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.'"

- Revelation 7:16-17

Africa

Pray for survivors of police brutality in Kenya as they begin to form a survivor network through local Justice Centers. These groups will bring survivors together to share their stories, support one another and lend their voices to advocate on behalf of others. Pray for this group to grow and be strengthened, and pray that the advocacy they engage in will lead to national change.

Latin America

Give thanks for Clayton and Ellen Kershaw (from the Los Angeles Dodgers), who, as part of their partnership with IJM, visited our Dominican Republic office to help bring an end to sex trafficking of children. They met with local government officials, local partners and survivors. They also used their platform in the U.S. to shine a light on this issue and ESPN recently released a clip about their visit . Please pray that as many people watch this clip and are impacted by their story, they will want to learn more about our work and join the fight for justice!

South Asia

Praise God for two simultaneous rescue operations this week that freed 42 people from modern slavery at lumber yards. A man and his son-in-law enslaved these families for years in brutal conditions at two sites, with very little food or contact with the outside world. Some of the victims literally fell to their feet begging for release when government authorities and IJM arrived. Praise God that we were able to find and rescue these families - including a two-week-old baby - and pray we can help them resettle and recover in safety. Also pray for the two suspects to be held accountable for their crimes.

Southeast Asia

The BBC recently featured the fight against cybersex trafficking of children in the Philippines on their TV, radio and online news platforms. Join us in praying that these stories would shed light on the evil of trafficking, draw attention and resources to the fight and build global momentum to shut down cybersex trafficking of children for good.

Praise God for survivors who are leading the justice movement in their communities and around the world. These survivors are sharing their stories and calling on governments and individuals to protect people from violence. Please ask God to pour out resilience and joy on these survivor leaders, and ask God to grant IJM wisdom as we support these survivors in the process of sharing their stories.

IJM Prayer Request

“Blessed are those who act justly, who always do what is right.”

— Psalm 106:3

Africa

Praise God that the legal cases against a group of people who threatened and assaulted a widow and her family in Uganda have resulted in convictions. Albertina, a widow living in Northern Uganda, returned home after a civil war had displaced her family from their land to find the property had been claimed by her neighbors. For years she suffered harassment, threats and assaults from the people who tried to drive her and her family off the property they depended on to survive. Please pray that the convictions in these cases will send a clear message, that Albertina’s and other widows’ vulnerability to abuse will end, and that they will be fully protected under the law. Learn more about Albertina’s story.

Latin America

Please continue praying for the church’s involvement in the work of justice and restoration in El Salvador. Pray that many congregations and parishes will partner with our team and take concrete steps to build safe spaces for victims and survivors of violence against women and children in their communities. Pray specifically for God to pour His strength, courage, compassion and commitment upon them so many can be protected and restored.

South Asia

Praise God for the successful arrest of a powerful woman who repeatedly trafficked teen girls for sex. Police had been searching for her since 2017, when a rescued victim shared how this woman trafficked her and dozens of others across the country into her network of brothels. IJM supported the investigation for the last five months and helped police finally pinpoint this woman’s location, leading to her arrest. Pray she would finally be held accountable for her crimes in court, and that other criminals would see this case as an example of the power of the law.

Southeast Asia

Praise God for another conviction in the Philippines! A young woman in Metro Cebu pled guilty to attempted trafficking in persons and possession of child pornography. She was arrested last December by agents from the Philippine National Bureau of Investigations. In the same police operation, five children, ranging from six to 15 years old, were rescued. Join us in thanking God for justice on behalf of these victims and asking Him to work in the life of this young woman as she serves her sentence.

Please pray for our storytelling team as they produce multiple videos with survivors in Guatemala and Ghana this summer. Ask God to pour out peace on the survivors who are sharing their stories and pray that the process of sharing would be a powerful and joyful experience for them. Please also pray for safety and smooth logistics as the team travels and that the films would inspire people to join the fight for justice.
