Rebound Prayer Request

Pray for the early stages of prep for our Ray of Hope summer camp, and that parents of the kids who need to hear about camp, do.

We could use prayer for dinner teams for our Bellingham class.  We are in need of groups to prepare dinners for the families attending Roots.

Please pray for donations of children's clothes for our "New to You Table".

We could use continued prayer for our Roots families and volunteers; we have several kids with high behavior needs this quarter.

Please pray for our fabulous volunteers as they navigate these needs. Please pray that the 2019 Grant Cycle work will be successful for Rebound, as these funds are needed to run our programs.

“But let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.”

— Amos 5:24

Africa

Pray for IJM Ghana’s Justice Concert, which will feature local musicians and artists performing and displaying art about justice. This event is being put on in partnership with a Christian creative arts ministry, and will include messages about God’s call to his church to be active in ending injustices like slavery. Pray for these performers and artists to continue using their platforms to share about issues of justice, and pray for attendees to be inspired to take part in ending slavery in Ghana.

Latin America

Fervently pray for newly appointed local authorities in the Dominican Republic and ask for God’s favor over our team. Pray for blessings, guidance and for wise advisors to surround them as they take on their new responsibilities. Specifically pray for these new authorities to be moved to tirelessly work to bring an end to sex trafficking of children and young women in their country.

South Asia

Please pray for follow-up on a rescue operation this week that freed two young families from slavery at a rice mill. These families — including five children — were forced to work for the last three years under an abusive owner. They are thrilled and relieved to be free now, but must now re-learn how to make choices and support themselves. One of the children also has some partial hearing loss due to lack of medical care at the mill. Pray that our aftercare team and the government can help them adjust to normal life, get medical care and meet their needs in this precious time.

Southeast Asia

Please pray for IJM’s team in Bangkok as we work with our partners to bring cases of trafficking in the Thai fishing industry to light. Pray that we are able to support Thai law enforcement effectively, so together we can find and rescue workers who are victims of trafficking — even as they’re moving between ports and fishing boats — and to bring their traffickers to justice.

“He brought me out into a spacious place; he rescued me because he delighted in me.”

— 2 Samuel 22:20

Africa

Praise God for the decision by the courts of Ghana to restrain a suspected trafficker in pre-trial detention until his case begins. His arrest took place in the Lake Volta region of Ghana, where he is suspected of abusing a 13-year-old girl. Pray for the survivor as she receives care, and for justice as the prosecution of the suspect proceeds.

Latin America

Pray for unity, discernment and peace for our Collaborative Casework department as they make plans for the upcoming year. In 2019, they will look for individual and local organizations who want to learn and contextualize IJM’s model to provide legal and aftercare services to protect child survivors of sexual violence. Pray that God will lead our staff to the correct partner organizations who have a heart to make justice for the poor unstoppable and will walk with future survivors.

South Asia

Praise God for the successful rescue of two men and nine boys from slavery at a fried snack factory. They had been trafficked from their village over loans as small as $30, then were made to work 18-hour days in horrible conditions. They faced constant violence and bore painful scars from hot oil and beatings. IJM and our partners rescued them last Saturday, and now they are heading home to their families. Praise God for his provision throughout this urgent rescue. Learn more about this case.

Southeast Asia

Pray that God would bring rescue to children in the Philippines, who right now are suffering in secret. IJM helped one law enforcement unit conduct their first rescue of the year, and we are grateful that they brought these young children to safety. Continue to pray that rescue would come to children in the Philippines who need it, and that it would come quickly. Pray that God would give IJM and Philippines law enforcement wisdom and courage — and that he would give us eyes to see those who are being exploited.

Please join us in praying for the upcoming IF:Gathering in February, where IJM will be sharing about our work combatting slavery and will be calling attendees to step into the fight. Ask God to pour out wisdom for the IJM speakers, and to mmove powerfully in the hearts of the women participating in the event to take action. Please pray for our recruitment efforts for Directors of Strategic Partnerships, as we have four open positions. These roles will meaningfully engage donors in our work, showing how their joyful financial partnership can bring freedom and rescue to thousands.

“I get my knowledge from afar; I will ascribe justice to my Maker.”

— Job 36:3

Africa

  • Praise God for the successful creation of a police training manual in Uganda that will prepare officers to handle cases of land theft perpetrated against widows and orphans. The IJM team has worked closely with partners in the criminal justice system to develop this training that will ensure victims can go to police with confidence that their rights to safety in their homes and on their land will be protected. Pray for smooth roll-out of the training, and for officers to embrace their role in protecting women and children from violent land theft.

Latin America

  • Please join us in celebrating that Guatemalan courts brought an end to two cases of sexual violence against children with outstanding sentences at the end of December. IJM has been working collaboratively with local authorities for the past three years on these cases. With IJM’s aftercare support and the court’s ruling, the survivors — Priscilla* and three other young women — can continue to make great strides in their healing process and can walk freely knowing that their aggressors can no longer hurt them. Pray that in the year ahead Guatemalan courts would continue ruling with justice. Read the full story.

South Asia

  • Please pray for a study we are conducting to document changes in sex trafficking prevalence through our projects. This study will try to paint a better picture of trafficking over the last 20 years, which can be difficult if records weren’t kept and stakeholders all have different experiences. Pray we can work together as an anti-trafficking community to gain a real understanding of how this crime has changed and where we need to keep fighting in the years ahead.

Southeast Asia

  • Praise God for last month’s ‘Voice of the Stateless’ event in Northern Thailand. The event, held in Mae Hong Son province, brought partners together to celebrate the great progress made in securing citizenship for thousands of stateless people living in the province. Hill tribe members living in Northern Thailand often lack the citizenship that is promised to them under Thai law, and without the legal status that is rightfully theirs, they often can’t access education, medical care or other benefits from the government, and are restricted from traveling outside of their home communities. Over 1,500 people from various tribes gathered at the event to celebrate and hear about the hope that is offered to them through the work of IJM, our partners and their government leaders.

  • Please pray for wisdom and creativity for our volunteer teams in cities across the U.S. Pray for these volunteers as they plan for the year, outlining goals and strategies to rally financial resources, advocacy momentum and prayer support for the work of justice. Ask God to give them great joy as they build the movement to end slavery and stand up for the oppressed.

“Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.”

— Matthew 5:5

Africa

  • Praise God for a historic conviction in Kenya in December! We have achieved the conviction of a senior police officer in our highest-profile case of police abuse prior to the murder of our friends in 2016. This is the first time in Kenya’s history that an officer of this rank has been convicted for murder, and the tenth police officer convicted for murder in 2018 (across all police abuse cases, not just IJM’s). Prior to this year, convictions of police for any crimes have been rare. Pray for the movement to end police abuse to continue to gain momentum until the people of Kenya have a police force that they can trust to protect and serve them.

Latin America

  • Pray for our teams in Latin America who, in collaboration with local authorities and IJM-trainee partners, are working to protect children from sexual violence, sex trafficking and other forms of violence against women and children. As the New Year begins, it is crucial for our teams to continue developing good relationships and open doors for training and mentorship between our teams and key actors of the justice system, who ultimately have the power to effectively enforce their countries’ laws to rescue and protect the most vulnerable from violence.

South Asia

  • Please pray for a group of slavery survivors who are rebuilding after a fire devastated their small community last month. These families had lived in sturdy but simple thatched-roof homes, and many were lost when a fire moved quickly through the village. IJM and our government partners are now helping the survivor families rebuild. Pray we could meet each family’s needs and get them back on their feet quickly in the new year.

Southeast Asia

  • Pray for the thousands of people displaced by the recent landslides and devastating floods in the central Philippines, and for the families of those who have lost their lives. As heavy rain continues, pray that emergency services are able to reach all of the affected areas and that authorities are able to locate those who are still missing. Pray that those affected would be protected from further abuse or exploitation and able to return home safely.

  • Please pray for the IJM campus chapter student leaders as they begin a new semester this month. Pray that God would grant these students wisdom, energy and creativity as they seek to raise awareness of trafficking, and as they mobilize their peers to take action against slavery in concrete and tangible ways.
