IJM Prayer Request

“Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne; love and faithfulness go before you.”

— Psalm 89:14

Africa

Pray for the team in Uganda as they transition into a unified national program to combat violence against women and children. For some of our teams, this means a change in the types of cases they are taking on, and for everyone it means learning new skills and ways of working. Pray for discernment as the team continues to narrow in on geographic scope for work. Pray for wisdom as the teams develop their strategy to work with authorities to make Uganda a country that is safe for women and children.

Latin America

Pray for IJM’s work in Guatemala protecting children from sexual violence and our engagement with key government actors to ensure perpetrators are held accountable. Pray specifically for our relationship with the Guatemalan Public Prosecutors office, as they oversee all prosecutors across the country. In the upcoming weeks, our team will be meeting with some of the key leaders within this institution to find the best ways to support them. Please pray for wisdom, creativity and clear communication to develop good working strategies, and for God’s presence in all our meetings.

South Asia

Praise God for proactive government officials who rescued five people from bonded labor slavery at a brick kiln — all without IJM’s help. In the past, many local officials denied slavery existed or refused to act when a case arose. It’s our vision to see trained authorities proactively protect the poor, so we are so thrilled to see new leaders emerging who are confronting modern slavery head-on. Pray for all the follow-up on this rescue operation, for the five survivors to resettle well in freedom and for IJM to continue encouraging government “ownership” in the fight for justice.

Southeast Asia

Praise God for rescue: 16 children are now safe! This week, through three operations across the Philippines, IJM supported police to rescue 16 children from cybersex trafficking. The rescued survivors range in age from 9 to 14 years old. Pray for IJM’s team and social workers from the Department of Social Welfare and Development as we assess whether it is safe for the children to return home. Pray for healing and restoration in these children’s lives. And finally, pray for justice — four suspects’ traffickers were arrested and face trafficking charges.

IJM HQ & Global Partners

IJM headquarters is located in the United States. IJM has international advancement offices in Australia, Canada, Germany, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom.

Please join us in prayer for our church mobilization teams around the world, both in our field office and advancement office countries. These teams are tirelessly working to embed the biblical call to justice in congregations across the globe, and to connect churches to concrete ways they can seek justice. Ask God to pour out creativity and endurance on these teams, and to move in the hearts of the congregations and church leaders they are serving.

IJM Prayer Request

“I will sing of your love and justice; to you, O Lord, I will sing praise.”

— Psalm 101:1

Africa

Last year, the IJM Team in Gulu, Uganda successfully completed a pilot project to address domestic violence, expanding on their past work in land theft to take on a greater breadth of cases involving violence against women and children. This year, they are beginning full-scale work in domestic violence. The staff feel well-prepared as they move forward, but know that the journey will not be easy. Please pray for them to have strength and steadiness to continue showing up for women who are being abused, and for wisdom and calm as they encounter challenges along the way.

Latin America

Praise God for the rescue of four teenagers from sex trafficking in the Dominican Republic. This operation was extremely dangerous, and we are giving thanks for God’s protection over all four survivors, our staff and local authorities. A man arrested in this operation is currently being investigated for sexually exploiting these teenagers. Pray for the survivors as they prepare to give their testimonies, which will provide key evidence to move their case forward in court. Pray for their peace and clarity of mind as they retell the horrors they had to face before their rescue.

South Asia

Please pray for an IJM partner seeking to rescue one man from an agricultural farm where he has been enslaved for 12 years. This man has been denied wages, adequate food and clothing — even in the winter. We also believe he has experienced physical abuse. Pray IJM can support this partner as they work with the government to rescue this man quickly and hold his abusers accountable.

Southeast Asia

Pray for the children that IJM and our law enforcement partners are searching for in the Philippines. There are young boys and girls who are being sexually exploited in the communities where they live, for an audience of customers around the world who are watching the abuse online. The Philippines government gets thousands of case referrals like this every month. Pray that IJM, the Philippine government, the Church and all of our partners would be able to find the children urgently in need of rescue, and that together we are able to make the Philippines a safer place for children who are vulnerable to this crime.

Praise God for the advocates and abolitionists who mobilized for Shine a Light on Slavery Day earlier in February. Specifically, thank God for the college students across the country who emailed and tweeted their elected officials, asking them to support policies that will advance the fight against slavery. Pray for strong follow up with these officials, and that they would use their power and influence on behalf of vulnerable children, women and men around the world.

IJM Prayer Request

“Our people must learn to devote themselves to doing what is good, in order to provide for urgent needs and not live unproductive lives.”

— Titus 3:14

Africa

Praise God for a rescue in Ghana that freed six children last week , thanks to the good work of police and the Department of Social Welfare and Development, assisted by IJM. During the course of several interviews with the children, police and social workers heard accounts of multiple physical assaults that several of the children endured at the hands of their traffickers, visible in the scars that were still on their bodies. Praise God that the police made three arrests despite pressure from some members of the community, and that what they witnessed is making them eager to rescue more victims of trafficking on the lake.

Latin America

Last year, IJM opened a new office in El Salvador to strengthen the government’s capacity to better respond to violence against women and children. Please pray that God will protect our team members, who work in dangerous areas every day. Also pray He will give us favor with local authorities and community members as we embark in the work of justice in this new country.

South Asia

Please pray for political stability in the states where we work in South Asia. A huge portion of IJM’s mission to transform justice systems relies on good relationships and participation from the local and state government, so anytime they experience unrest or distraction our teams are held back. There are many places this month where tensions are high and officials are not able to prioritize protecting the poor from violence. Please pray for God’s peace to spread quickly, and that IJM staff could strategize on a way forward in the meantime.

Southeast Asia

Pray for IJM Cambodia’s team as they build relationships with local officials, partner organizations and church leaders in rural communities across the country. These relationships are critical as we work together to protect victims of slavery and trafficking and prevent abuse from happening in the first place. As we build relationships in these communities, pray for fruitful collaboration that leads to more awareness of slavery and trafficking crimes, more cases reported and more survivors supported as they return home.

Please join us in praising God for this weekend’s IF:Gathering, where IJM shared about our work combatting slavery and called attendees to step into the fight. Thank God for the hundreds of women who took action in response, and ask Him to continue moving in the hearts of attendees to seek justice.

IJM Prayer Request

“Your throne, O God, will last forever and ever; a scepter of justice will be the scepter of your kingdom.”

— Psalm 45:6

Africa

Praise God for a conviction in Gulu, Uganda of a man who had abused his wife. He was sentenced to 100 hours of community service and a fine. Pray that he would take this conviction to heart, and learn to protect rather than abuse the people in his life. Pray for the continued safety and wellbeing of his wife — that she would feel secure and confident that the authorities will respond on her behalf.

Latin America

Praise God for two strong convictions in Bolivia! The first is the case of a small girl who was abused by her cousin when she was nine years old. Praise God for a 25-year conviction of her perpetrator, and please pray for her health, schooling and recovery — the abuse has had a profound impact on her and she is still healing. The second conviction is in the case of two girls — this week the accused received a sentencing of 15 years. Pray for continued healing and restoration for these girls, and please keep praying for justice in Bolivia.

South Asia

Please pray for healing for a survivor of sex trafficking who’s enduring many medical challenges. Due to a long-running medical condition, she has been bedridden for several years and is losing her speech and motor skills. We have been supporting her with physiotherapy and counseling, but now her family feels like she needs much more intensive care. Ask for God’s wisdom for our aftercare team as they strategize on how to get this young survivor the long-term care she needs.

Southeast Asia

Praise God that justice is “rolling on like a river” in the Philippines, where courts have convicted four traffickers for abusing and exploiting children. Pray that through these decisions, more children will be protected from ever being exploitated in the first place. Please also pray that the survivors represented in these cases would continue to heal from their trauma and be restored to safety and strength.

Thank God for the Dressember advocates who wore a dress or tie each day of December, generating awareness and support for ending slavery. Thank God for these advocates’ creativity and perseverance over the past two months as they rallied others to the fight against trafficking.
